Production control manager has to set aside some time each day to visit major or critical production areas in the plant.

While firefighting is important, and his department people are doing it, production control manager has to come out with measures which prevent fires in the future. He needs to  come out with system modifications that avoid fires.
 

Training his department people.

 
Training others in the routine of production control. He must volunteer to be a part of induction programs for new recruits.

I appreciate your comment. What is the point? The issues in management of the production control department. It is generally not an issue discussed in books. Plossl and White spent a paragraph on the issue. Persons like you, interested in the topic can add a point or two and develop the topic. My interest probably is to create an article for managing each and every management-subject related section or department in a company and develop some content. Well when readymade things are not available the process is difficult and requires time and sometimes it is frustrating. But our mutual enthusiasm to challenge each other could hasten that process.

Your comment prompted me to think about the issue once again. Even though I have not added anything at this moment, I shall come back and add some thing more.
